“We wanted a quality building at competitive market price. This needed to be a strong structure that complemented our residence. When searching and comparing, I decided to go with an open span steel, rather than timber, which required interior support, limiting inside movement. Steel structures are offered from light tubular to heavy 'red iron'. The size we decided on (30' x 50') allows enough room for an RV, with left over space for a hobby shop. Not being an professional engineer, but with experience in agriculture, oil field and heavy haul, I believe in my ability to recognize a balance of strength and durability. The light tubular structures on the market would concern me with wind and snow load stability. On the other hand, red iron appears basically overkill for the size we desired. I also wanted a company that could complete from start to finish. Whitestar sets up permits and lines up, what I came to recognize as quality contractors from start to finish. The time frame worked well and was unexpectedly quicker than I anticipated. The only noticeable delay was overhead door install. Yes, Whitestar has my recommendation. We are very happy with the results.”

Colorado is hard on buildings. Heavy snow in the mountains, strong wind on the plains and deep frost lines all change what your building needs. This is what we check on every Colorado project before we send a price.
Colorado counties publish the ground snow load and wind speed a building has to meet, and the numbers change a lot with elevation. A shop on the Grand Valley floor is designed very differently from one in a mountain town, and buildings on the eastern plains need to handle stronger wind.

Most Colorado counties require a building permit for anything larger than a small shed, and many ask for drawings stamped by an engineer. Requirements differ between Mesa, El Paso, Larimer and Weld counties, and some HOAs add their own rules on color and height.
Every Whitestar building comes with stamped drawings for your site. If your county asks for changes, we revise them for you.
Your building is only as good as the slab under it. Frost depth in Colorado varies by county, and your foundation has to reach below it. Soil on parts of the Western Slope and Front Range also expands when wet, which affects how the concrete is designed.
In our service areas we can pour the foundation with crews we've vetted, and we schedule your delivery around it so steel isn't sitting on your site.
Cold-formed steel is thick galvanized steel bent into C-shaped beams. It's stronger for its weight than the welded tube steel used on many carports, and it can span wider without posts, which helps under heavy, wet spring snow.
Galvanized steel doesn't rot, warp or attract termites, and it holds up to the sun and dry air at altitude. Panels carry up to a 40-year warranty and the frame up to 20 years.
